Experience
I completed my master’s degree in 1995 and have twelve years experience in the mental health field. I have worked at a community mental health center, a psychiatric/chemical dependency hospital setting and in private practice. I have worked with groups, families, couples, individuals, adolescents and children.

Theoretical Orientation
The type of therapy that I offer is based on family systems theory. My approach draws from an eclectic blend of many types of family therapy such as structural, strategic, object relations, behavioral, transgenerational, solution-focused and experiential.

Guiding Philosophy
I believe a family’s patterns of communication and behavior influence the individual and need to be part of the treatment plan. I believe that individuals and their problems must be seen in context, and the most important context is the family. No matter how many people are present for a session, treatment will be concerned with the set of relationships in which a person is embedded. With this viewpoint I treat individuals and their families who are facing severe mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, affective disorders, PTSD or addictions and substance abuse. I treat sexual abuse victims, couples in conflict and distress, adolescents and younger children with conduct disorders and/or substance abuse issues, families with parent-child conflict, families dealing with a chronic illness in one or more of its members and families in which one or more members are dealing with unresolved loss and grief. Interventions may be aimed at and influenced by family roles, patterns, rules, goals, belief systems and stages of development.

Families exist in many different forms, whether marriage has occurred in the legal sense or not. I invite people who were or currently are members of heterosexual, same-sex, culturally similar, inter-cultural, same race, inter-racial, and other forms of family to engage with me for relational development and problem solving within their cultural contexts.
