Marilyn Wolf, M.Ed., LPC, LCAS

Thank you for considering me as your psychotherapist. I have prepared the following information about myself to help you decide if I am a good match for you. If you have questions that are not addressed in this information which you would like answered before you make an appointment, please tell me so when you call. I'd be happy to talk with you for a few minutes to help you decide if I am who you would like to work with. If I'm not, I would be happy to give you the names of other psychotherapists in the area.

Theoretical Orientation
The models I find the most useful include insight-oriented, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, developmental, and mind-body-spirit. I also use the Enneagram in my work, if a client is interested.

My work is designed to help my clients:
1) explore existing belief systems and behavior patterns that keep the person stuck in pain
2) access, experience and release feelings associated with this pain
3) gain insight into how these beliefs and behaviors may have served a protective function at one time but are now at the root of their current unhappiness/discomfort
4) take responsibility for current choices and replace old beliefs and behaviors with ones that are functional, healthy, and life-supporting
5) develop support systems (e.g., healthy relationships, 12-step or other support groups, a faith-based community, self-help reading, etc.) and/or a wellness program (e.g., massage, acupuncture, yoga, nutrition, etc.) that will reinforce their efforts to maintain psychological, emotional, physical, and spiritual health

Guiding Philosophy
My work is based upon the belief that most individuals who seek psychotherapy are motivated by a deep desire to be whole; in other words, to be fully integrated, healthy, and autonomous individuals. I also believe that these individuals contain within them the wisdom and power needed to transcend their wounds, no matter how large or how deep. I envision my role as one who facilitates the healing process by guiding my clients to find the inner strengths and gifts they already possess, to develop new ones, to access resources, and to trust and utilize these to make needed and desired change.
